What makes a relationship successful?
- As always, put God first....it works
- define your relationship from day 1
- ensure you ask questions as regards wat he/she wants from the relationship
- Forget the baggages from your previous relationships
- get to know what works for you, i.e how often would you want to meet, call etc.
- honesty...it counts, you wont want to say A today and then B tomorow would you?
- if he/she is serious about you, meeting his folks or yours shouldnt be a problem you know?
- Just relax and enjoy it, stop being overtly curious or suspicious or too fast to pass judgement
- keep a tradition that works for you , sometimes stir the pot by deviating from it or them sometimes
- keep your mind open to learnin..
- lets always recognise the element of risk and make provision for it, i.e safe guard your heart untill you know for sure if the relationship has come to stay
Things you should know....
- discover who you are and what you want from a relationship and life in general
- Never stay in a relationship out of pity
- you wont need to be told you have met the right person, it will seem so right to you
- dont try to change who you are for a relationship
- Not all relationships are destined for the alter
- what works for A may not work for B

If he truly loves me, the respect will come. I beliv thats the sequence of the whole thing. Although some might argue the other, in my experience, i knew I was loved and with each passing day came the respect.
And even I personally got to love my man and the more I loved him the more I respected him.
this is atough one...did u have to do this.
but honestly, it has to be love. with genuine, true love, respect comes just like that.
BOTH EQUALLY! Sorry to cheat but i grew up in a house where you could tell there was love for the mother but the respect slowly faded for many different reasons. In a relationship, maybe love should be demanded more, but in a marriage with kids, respect definitely goes a long way establishing the family norms required to raise kids right. SO i'm going to stick with both and wait for that mindblowing revelation you've promised!

There can be no respect without TRUE love. Respect is definitely one of the by-products of love. The world today defines love as Sexual love / feelings. That kind of love alone cannot produce respect.
I dont really think there is much difference if u choose love..I say this because anyone who loves you automatically respects u...
He might respect u but not love u...so I'll go with love..

Ah, this question always comes up in so many forms and i never get tired sharing my 2 kobos. For me, it is all about respect. Here's why. Love is a wonderful thing. Once you experience it, you never want anything less. However, it has been proven that love and the affected parts of the brain, lasts for a specific period of time. Respect on the otherhand, can and does last forever. respect for your partner will affect how you treat him/her and hopefully couple that with the fear of God and couples can stay out of trouble.
So, in conclusion give me love but give me even stronger respect, because that will get a couple through even when the love fizzles.

I would say both but since you are forcing me to choose, it would have to be respect then. People love in different ways but I suppose we can manage one definition for respect.
if we follow the true essence of wat love is supposed to be, then it should be love.
but in the 21st century, love is a burden and a curse....
so i go for respect. any man that disrespects me, tells me in plain language that i am sub-human.
and men do have many ways of showing just how much of a fry they think u (the woman) are.
but in the ideal world they should come hand in hand...

What is the defination of respect to a woman? Been loved, appreciated, taken care of etc... All these are fruits of true unconditional love.
The bible says it best.."..Women respect your husbands, husbands love your wife unconditionally..".

In my opinion, love&respect are 2 different things, & it is possible to respect someone&have no love for them, and to love someone& have no respect for them.
Although I would ultimately prefer both,if I had to pick, I would pick respect. I think love is a feeling, and like all feelings, it is fickle. It comes&goes: people fall in&out of love all the time. It is respect that sustains a relationship at the times when love is flawed or even absent.
I think love is easily given, but respect is earned. Respect stands on the basis of some merit,and I would rather have that. I think if the choice had to be made b/w hurting someone you love, and hurting someone you respect- you would probably pick hurting someone you love; because you want the people you respect to respect you in return.

i believe if you love a person, you will definitely respect them and no it does not apply to animals (dogs and cats)....respecting the person means caring enough for their feelings, you can only get to the point of love by passing respect

Sex.... and lots of it:) Ok... fine am just joking... I'd take respect anytime....for many have professed their love but I took it with a pinch of salt; I did not understand what they were basing it on.
Respect on the other hand denotes trust in my ability to take on my responsibilities in the ....ship, yes and I'd like some sex to go with that.

I would definitely say love cos i think when u love someone, u would respect them regardless.
I say love... you can teach someone to respect you... but there is no way to teach genuine love
